Survey Engineer – Railway Surveying (12‑month contract)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Survey Engineer to provide specialist railway surveying expertise across a portfolio of rail infrastructure projects. Working as an independent consultant, you will plan, deliver and assure survey activities that support the design, maintenance and enhancement of the railway network.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and deliver topographical and rail infrastructure surveys.
• Establish, validate and maintain survey control networks.
• Manage GNSS survey control and coordinate transformation methodologies, including SnakeGrid.
• Extract, process and validate point‑cloud data and survey deliverables.
• Provide technical survey expertise to multidisciplinary project teams and review survey specifications.
• Carry out quality assurance and verification of survey information.
• Support survey governance, standards development and best‑practice initiatives.
• Coordinate with third‑party survey providers and resolve technical issues.

Required profile

• Significant railway surveying experience, including leading track and rail infrastructure surveys.
• Strong understanding of modern topographical survey techniques.
• Personal Track Safety (PTS) certification.
• Experience working within rail standards and environments.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
