System Administrator – Business Services

About the role

We are looking for a System Administrator to join Met Business Services (MBS), the new centralised service delivery arm of the Metropolitan Police. The role will ensure the reliability, security and performance of the organisation’s IT infrastructure, supporting HR, Finance and Commercial functions across London.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, upgrade and manage software, hardware and network components to ensure continuous service availability.
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Apply security patches, manage user access and enforce compliance with organisational policies.
• Collaborate with the Service and Operations team to optimise technical support processes and drive continuous improvement.
• Document configurations, procedures and changes to support knowledge sharing and audit requirements.

Required profile

• Proven experience in system administration within a complex, multi‑service environment.
• Strong understanding of IT service delivery, operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams and communicate technical information clearly.

Required skills

• Experience with Windows and/or Linux server administration.
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
• Familiarity with virtualization technologies and cloud platforms.
• Understanding of security best practices and patch management.
