System Engineering Manager

About the role

We are a fast‑growing UK technology company seeking a System Engineering Manager to lead our cross‑discipline engineering function. Reporting to the CTO, you will act as a trusted technical partner to the executive team while rolling up your sleeves on integration, debugging and customer deployments.

Key responsibilities

• Own the technical view across a complex, sensor‑integrated product platform.
• Establish a lightweight requirements management practice suited to a fast‑moving product environment.
• Lead architectural decision‑making for components, integrations and customer deployments.
• Define and enforce engineering standards in collaboration with discipline heads and the architect.
• Provide the CTO and leadership with clear, honest updates on technical and delivery status.
• Build and mentor a small systems engineering team as the function expands.
• Engage directly with customers, partners and prime contractors on technical matters.
• Represent engineering at integration reviews, trials and partner meetings.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in systems or hardware engineering, including production systems delivered to customers.
• Proven track record of building or scaling an engineering team – hiring, mentoring, setting standards and owning delivery.
• Hands‑on experience with sensor‑based systems such as radar, RF, electro‑optical, infrared or acoustic technologies.
• Strong foundation in requirements management, integration planning, verification and validation, and cross‑team design coordination.
