Systemic Family Therapist – Permanent Role in Southend-on-Sea

About the role

The Multi‑Disciplinary Team (MDT) at Southend‑on‑Sea City Council is seeking a full‑time, permanent Systemic Family Therapist. Working alongside experts in domestic abuse, substance misuse, and mental health, you will provide specialist systemic psychotherapy directly in families' homes and community settings.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver trauma‑informed systemic therapy to families facing significant challenges.
• Provide expert consultation and guidance to practitioners and managers working with high‑need child in need (CIN) and child protection plans.
• Lead the development and implementation of robust risk assessments for children and vulnerable adults.
• Support the MDT in shaping new approaches to family intervention and sustainable change.
• Collaborate with Family Help teams as part of the Families First transformation.

Required profile

• Qualified and experienced Systemic Family Therapist.
• Motivated, passionate about working with families and children in need.
• Ability to work independently in community and home settings.
• Strong analytical skills for risk assessment and decision‑making.
