Systems Engineer – Command & Control (3613‑1)

About the role

We are seeking a Systems Engineer to lead the Command & Control sub‑system for a high‑profile defence project delivering the Royal Navy's first operational Laser Directed Energy Weapon (LDEW). The role is based in Bristol and offers the chance to shape a critical capability on a fast‑track timeline.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day management, direction and technical leadership of the multi‑functional Common Architecture Team (CAT).
• Lead the capture, derivation and refinement of subsystem requirements for the Command & Control subsystem.
• Collaborate with CAT to develop the functional architecture of the Command & Control sub‑system.
• Identify, capture and mitigate functional risks, opportunities, issues and assumptions.

Required profile

• Product development and systems‑thinking mindset with strong stakeholder management.
• Proven experience across the systems engineering/product development lifecycle, emphasizing successful project delivery.
• Hands‑on functional design and development experience.
• Ability to work proactively under pressure and deliver on demanding timescales.
• Practical knowledge of systems engineering processes and tools such as IBM Rhapsody, IBM DOORS and IBM Engineering Workflow Management.
• Experience designing complex systems in a defence or highly regulated environment.
• Background leading cross‑functional engineering teams and developing air‑defence or LDEW weapon systems.
