Systems Engineer – Defence (UK)

About the role

We are seeking a Systems Engineer to support a key MOD programme delivering a complex defence system that contributes to UK national security. The role is based in Herefordshire and involves full‑lifecycle management of a Windows‑based environment.

Key responsibilities

• Enact systems engineering practices across the full lifecycle in a predominantly Windows environment.
• Manage and maintain critical Microsoft server systems, including AD, DNS, DHCP, and virtualisation platforms.
• Handle server patching, monitoring, performance tuning, and backup/recovery operations.
• Collaborate with customers, suppliers, and industry partners to integrate and support platform installations.

Required profile

• Current or eligible DV security clearance.
• Experience in server administration and associated technologies (AD, DNS, DHCP).
• Ability to maintain high availability, performance and security of mission‑critical systems.

Required skills

• Microsoft Server administration (Windows Server, AD, DNS, DHCP).
• Virtualisation technologies.
• Server patching and lifecycle management.
• System health monitoring and performance analysis.
• Backup, restore and recovery procedures.
• Red Hat Linux (nice to have).
• Radio over IP (ROIP) and networking technologies.
• Knowledge of JSP440 security guidelines and MBSE environments.
