Systems Engineer - EMC/TEMPEST (6 month contract)

About the role

We are seeking a Systems Engineer with specialist knowledge in EMC and TEMPEST to join a leading Defence and Aerospace contractor on a 6‑month contract based in Portsmouth. The role is inside IR35 and offers a rate of £70 per hour. Successful candidates will obtain a high‑level MOD Security Clearance and work on the full lifecycle of compliant equipment installations.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Systems team in designing compliant equipment installations and producing associated test plans and compliance evidence.
• Identify stakeholders, capture requirements and define the solution boundary for EMC and TEMPEST.
• Design and evaluate possible architectures in collaboration with IS/IT specialists.
• Develop and lead EMC/TEMPEST test plans and coordinate with external test houses.
• Perform system modelling, performance analysis, trade‑off studies and verification of implementations.
• Lead operational, in‑service evaluation and impact analysis of design change requests throughout the product lifecycle.

Required profile

• Experience working on MilSatComs or similar defence‑related projects.
• Ability to obtain high‑level MOD Security Clearance.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to manage requirements across the system lifecycle.

Required skills

• Familiarity with TEMPEST standards and test specifications.
• Knowledge of EMC standards, test procedures and data handling.
• Experience with system‑level EMC design, equipment selection and mitigation of electrical interference.
• Practical experience in electrical equipment installation, rack mounting and compliant cabling.
• Electrical safety certification and generation of test plans.
