Systems Engineer – Hybrid (London/Cheltenham)

About the role

We are seeking a Systems Engineer to join a team delivering critical national security programmes for defence, government and intelligence clients. The role is hybrid, based in London or Cheltenham, with occasional travel to client sites. You will work in highly secure environments, applying systems engineering best practice to complex, high‑profile projects.

Key responsibilities

• Define project scope, objectives and technical requirements with stakeholders.
• Lead requirements‑elicitation workshops and technical design sessions.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks across programmes.
• Produce and maintain engineering artefacts such as system models, integration approaches and test strategies.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams.
• Support delivery assurance, verification and validation activities.
• Manage integration activities across multiple technical disciplines.
• Coordinate engineering resources and third‑party suppliers.
• Present technical findings and project updates to senior stakeholders.

Required profile

• Degree qualified in an engineering, technical or scientific discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Strong systems engineering background in software, networking or cyber‑security environments.
• Experience delivering projects for defence, intelligence, government or national‑security organisations.
• Previous consultancy, systems integrator or public‑sector experience.
• Knowledge of systems‑engineering methodologies and frameworks.
• Excellent stakeholder‑management and client‑facing communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in highly secure environments.
• Active DV or EDV clearance is mandatory.
