Teaching Assistant & 1:1 Support Assistant

About the role

Prospero Teaching is looking for compassionate Teaching Assistants and 1:1 Support Assistants to work in a specialist secondary school in Fareham. The role provides both classroom‑based and individual support for pupils with a range of SEND, including autism, ADHD, SEMH and communication challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver tailored support to pupils in class and on a one‑to‑one basis.
• Help pupils access learning, build confidence and develop independence.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists and the wider school team to implement personalised strategies.
• Promote positive behaviour and maintain a safe, structured environment.
• Adapt learning activities and provide differentiated support as needed.

Required profile

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEMH, autism, ADHD or communication needs.
• Ability to remain calm and provide consistent reassurance during dysregulation.
• Strong behaviour management skills while fostering a nurturing atmosphere.
• Motivational approach to encourage engagement and confidence.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Patient, caring, professional and proactive attitude.
• Willingness to work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
