Teaching Assistant – British Sign Language (BSL)

About the role

This full‑time position supports a vibrant secondary school in Redbridge, helping deaf and hearing‑impaired students access the curriculum through British Sign Language. You will work closely with teachers, the SENCO and other support staff to create an inclusive learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide in‑class BSL support to students during lessons.
• Collaborate with teachers to adapt and deliver differentiated activities.
• Assist in preparing accessible teaching materials.
• Support students’ emotional, social and academic development.
• Work with the SENCO to implement individual education plans.
• Promote positive interactions and an inclusive classroom culture.

Required profile

• Proficiency in British Sign Language (minimum Level 2, Level 3 preferred).
• Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an educational setting.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Patient, empathetic and adaptable approach to diverse learning needs.
• Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.
