Teaching Assistant

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs at Oversands School, an independent specialist day school in Grange‑over‑Sands. You will work closely with teachers and support staff to help pupils develop their learning, confidence and independence.

Key responsibilities

• Assist teachers in delivering lessons and adapting materials for pupils with complex learning needs.
• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to promote academic progress and social skills.
• Monitor pupil behaviour, record observations and communicate progress to the teaching team.
• Help create a safe, inclusive and stimulating classroom environment.
• Support pupils during breaks, transitions and extracurricular activities.

Required profile

• Resilient, patient and committed to the wellbeing of young people.
• Experience or strong interest in working with children with ASD, SEMH or other SEND needs.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.
• Willingness to undertake training and professional development.

Required skills

• Understanding of autism spectrum disorders and social‑emotional challenges.
• Basic knowledge of behaviour management strategies.
