Teaching Assistant – Reception/Year 1 (Term‑time)

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support Reception and Year 1 pupils in a vibrant school in Horsham. The role is term‑time only, Monday‑Friday, and involves assisting the class teacher and providing targeted support for children, including those with special educational needs.

Key responsibilities

• Support individual pupils or small groups with learning activities set by the teacher.
• Prepare and develop resources to meet specific needs.
• Maintain communication with the class teacher regarding pupil progress.
• Assist with planning and assessment activities.
• Deliver specialist interventions as directed by the Inclusion Leader.
• Help pupils with SEN integrate socially and academically.
• Manage pupil behaviour in line with the school’s policy.
• Adapt the learning environment for individual requirements.
• Provide midday supervision, set up activities and administer first aid (training provided).
• Participate in professional development and INSET days.
• Contribute to discussions about pupil progress and needs.

Required profile

• Experience supporting children in an educational setting, particularly those with SEN.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently.
• Commitment to professional development and learning.
• Flexibility to undertake a variety of tasks to support school needs.
