Teaching Assistant – Secondary (Key Stages 3 & 4)

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support students in Key Stages 3 and 4 at a thriving secondary school in North London. You will work closely with teachers and the SEN team to provide tailored assistance, particularly for pupils on the ASD spectrum.

Key responsibilities

• Assist teachers in delivering lessons across a range of subjects for KS3‑4 students.
• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with ASD, using PECS and Makaton where appropriate.
• Help students use walking/standing frames safely and independently.
• Collaborate with a large, multi‑skilled support department to ensure inclusive learning environments.
• Contribute to the school’s inclusive culture and support the development of SEN strategies.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant in a primary or secondary setting.
• Specific experience working with students on the autism spectrum.
• Ability to work well within a large, multidisciplinary team.
• Flexible, adaptable and motivated to develop further responsibilities.
• Degree‑level education or equivalent experience is advantageous.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).
• Experience with PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System).
• Familiarity with Makaton sign language.
