Teaching Assistant – Secondary School (Leeds)

About the role

This permanent, part‑time position starts in September 2026 and offers a rewarding opportunity to support pupils aged 11‑16 in a well‑regarded secondary school in Leeds. Working closely with class teachers and the SEN team, you will help remove barriers to learning, boost confidence and maintain a safe, inclusive classroom environment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver targeted learning interventions to individuals or small groups of students.
• Assist teachers with classroom tasks, resources and behaviour management.
• Provide academic and emotional support, helping pupils understand instructions and complete tasks.
• Collaborate with internal support staff and external agencies to ensure consistent pastoral care.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with young people, preferably in a secondary school setting.
• Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain one) and registration on the Update Service.
• Flexibility and resilience to adapt to changing classroom dynamics.
• Legal entitlement to work full‑time in the UK.

Required skills

• Active listening and clear communication.
• Empathy, patience and the ability to de‑escalate low‑level disruptions.
• Collaboration with teachers, support staff and external consultants.
• Strong literacy and numeracy knowledge to support Key Stage 3 and 4 curricula.
