Teaching Assistant – Secondary School (Temporary)

About the role

We are seeking a resilient and engaging Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming secondary school in South Tyneside. The role supports students across a range of subjects and year groups, with a particular focus on managing behaviour and building positive relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Support students across a range of subjects and year groups.
• Manage classroom behaviour and de‑escalate challenging situations.
• Build positive relationships with pupils, especially those with additional needs.
• Assist teachers with lesson preparation and delivery.
• Contribute to the wider life of the school, including extracurricular activities.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people, preferably in a school setting.
• Confidence in supporting pupils with behavioural needs.
• Calm, professional and consistent approach under pressure.
• Good sense of humour and strong interpersonal skills.
• Proactive, reliable and willing to engage in all aspects of school life.

Required skills

• Behaviour management.
• De‑escalation techniques.
• Relationship building with students and staff.
