Teaching Assistant – Secondary SEMH School

About the role
We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a secondary school in Walsall. You will work closely with teachers to deliver personalised learning and emotional support, helping students thrive in a nurturing environment.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for students with SEMH needs.
- Assist teachers in planning and delivering engaging, accessible lessons.
- Help students regulate emotions and manage behaviour effectively.
- Promote positive attitudes to learning and build confidence.
- Support classroom activities, interventions and whole‑school initiatives.
- Act as a trusted role model and mentor, building positive relationships.
- Assist students in developing essential life skills alongside academic progress.
Required profile
- Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, mentor or youth worker, preferably in an SEMH or secondary school setting.
- Patient, empathetic and positive approach to supporting students with complex needs.
- Strong communication and behaviour management abilities.
- Willingness to hold a valid DBS check (or be on the update service).
- Passion for making a difference in young people’s lives.
