Teaching Assistant – Secondary SEMH School

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Bolton. The role starts in September 2026 and is full‑time for term‑time only, offering the chance to make a real difference for students aged 11‑16 who need extra support.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group classroom support.
• Build trusting relationships with students and help them manage emotions and behaviour.
• Assist teachers in delivering tailored learning activities and interventions.
• Promote engagement, confidence, self‑esteem and independence.
• Collaborate with teaching staff, pastoral teams and external professionals.
• Contribute to behaviour support plans and individual learning programmes.
• Maintain a calm, consistent and nurturing approach at all times.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people, preferably in SEMH, SEND, alternative provision or secondary school settings.
• Strong behaviour management and relationship‑building abilities.
• Patient, resilient and empathetic nature.
• Ability to stay calm under pressure and respond positively to challenging situations.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
