Teaching Assistant (SEMH Support) – Fixed Term (1 Year)

About the role

This full‑time, one‑year fixed‑term position supports a small group of Year 5 pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a welcoming primary school in Hemel Hempstead. Working on a 1:3 basis, you will help students access learning, build confidence and develop resilience.

Key responsibilities

• Provide targeted, one‑to‑one support to three Year 5 pupils with SEMH needs.
• Implement behaviour and emotional regulation strategies inside and outside the classroom.
• Collaborate closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school staff.
• Foster independence, social development and positive relationships.
• Contribute to a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with children, ideally in a school setting.
• Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, behavioural or additional learning needs.
• Patient, resilient and able to remain calm under pressure.
• Strong interpersonal skills for building relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues.
• A genuine passion for children’s development and wellbeing.
