Teaching Assistant (SEN/Autism) – Primary School

About the role

We are looking for a patient and empathetic Teaching Assistant to support children with Autism and other special educational needs in a vibrant four‑form entry primary school in Barking & Dagenham. The role runs full‑time during term‑time from September 2026 to July 2027 and is based on‑site near Dagenham Heathway Station.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for key students from EYFS to Year 6.
• Assist pupils with communication, sensory processing and social interaction challenges.
• Maintain clear and consistent behaviour boundaries while adapting approaches to individual needs.
• Identify and respond to specific learning and sensory requirements.
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff to implement personalised learning plans.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a teaching assistant working with SEN/Autism, preferably in a primary school.
• Confidence supporting children across all primary year groups.
• Understanding of how Autism can affect communication, sensory perception and social interaction.
• Ability to set consistent boundaries and provide behaviour support.
• Patience, flexibility and a genuine desire to help each child reach their potential.

What we offer

• Fixed‑term 1‑year contract (Sept 2026 – July 2027).
• Daily rate of £95‑£105 (PAYE).
• Full‑time schedule: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm, Monday‑Friday, term‑time only.
