Teaching Assistant – Support Students with Additional Needs (Part‑Time)

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Teaching Assistant to support students with additional needs in Hedge End, Southampton. This part‑time, permanent role offers the chance to help learners build confidence, independence and academic progress while gaining valuable experience in an educational setting.

Key responsibilities

• Provide classroom and curriculum support across a range of subjects, clarifying instructions and assisting with equipment and materials.
• Deliver targeted catch‑up sessions and one‑to‑one or small‑group support.
• Motivate students, aid concentration and organisation, and encourage independent work completion.
• Address individual learning and physical needs, including language, behaviour, reading, spelling, handwriting and presentation.
• Maintain progress records, give regular feedback and contribute to assessments and support programmes.

Required profile

• Enthusiastic, calm and genuinely interested in supporting students with additional needs.
• Recent graduate or candidate considering a teaching career; no prior experience required, though classroom experience is advantageous.
• Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and support staff.

• Annual salary of £16,956 (equivalent to £24,796 FTE) plus benefits.
• Permanent part‑time contract – 29.5 hours per week, term‑time only (39 weeks).
• Working hours: Mon‑Thu 8:30‑16:00, Tue‑Fri 8:30‑15:00.
