Team Leader – Hazardous Waste & Carriers

About the role

The Environment Agency is seeking a motivated Team Leader to head its Hazardous Waste, Carriers, Brokers & Dealers workstream. You will drive forward the circular economy, influence legislation and help reduce waste crime across the UK.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a dispersed team of experts delivering hazardous waste and carrier regulation work.
• Shape waste legislation, write guidance and operational instructions.
• Support cross‑cutting initiatives on health, safety, wellbeing and performance management.
• Build and maintain relationships with regulators, operators and other stakeholders.
• Travel occasionally to London, Birmingham and other locations in England as required.

Required profile

• Enthusiastic leader able to inspire and build positive team spirit.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to work independently, manage complex workloads and deliver results.
• Experience working within regulation, preferably waste or environmental legislation.
• Ability to anticipate and manage risk.
