Team Manager – Children with Disabilities

About the role

Manchester City Council is seeking an experienced Team Manager to lead its Children with Disabilities (CWD) service. The role combines strategic oversight, multi‑agency collaboration and direct supervision of social work staff to ensure high‑quality care for children with complex needs.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a team of Social Workers and Senior Practitioners, ensuring compliance with Child in Need, Child Protection and Looked After Children frameworks.
• Provide reflective supervision, technical guidance and support high‑quality assessments and care plans.
• Oversee risk management, resource allocation (including short breaks and specialist care packages) and performance against key indicators.
• Develop and maintain partnerships with health providers, education authorities and voluntary organisations to deliver integrated support.

Required profile

• Qualified Social Worker with a current registration with Social Work England.
• Proven experience as a Team Manager or Assistant Team Manager within statutory Children’s Services.
• Strong knowledge of the Children Act 1989/2004, Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act and safeguarding of children with disabilities.
• Excellent communication, budgeting awareness and ability to motivate a frontline team.
