Team Manager - Frontline Children's

About the role

Our client Wirral MBC is seeking an experienced Team Manager to lead its Frontline Children’s social work team. The role involves overseeing assessments, Child in Need and Child Protection work, pre‑proceedings and care proceedings, ensuring timely and high‑quality support for vulnerable children.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day operations of the frontline children’s team, maintaining practice quality and performance standards.
• Oversee assessments, CP plans, CIN work, pre‑legal orders and court proceedings, making decisions and escalating issues when required.
• Provide regular supervision, challenge and support social workers, and be visible and accessible to the team.
• Address performance issues directly, uphold clear standards and foster staff development.
• Collaborate with senior managers and partner agencies, promote accurate recording and timely visits, and keep children at the centre of decision‑making.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing a frontline children’s social work team.
• Resilient, practical and child‑focused with the ability to balance support and accountability.
• Strong decision‑making skills and confidence to escalate when necessary.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for supervision and performance management.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable children.

Required skills

• Knowledge of child protection legislation, assessment processes and care proceedings.
• Experience with case management systems and accurate record‑keeping.
• Ability to lead, motivate and develop a multidisciplinary team.
