Team Manager – Kinship & Fostering (Permanent)

About the role

Southend City Council is seeking a full‑time, permanent Team Manager to lead its Kinship and Fostering Team. You will oversee recruitment, assessment, training and supervision of foster and kinship carers, ensuring that children’s care needs are met across the borough.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day delivery of kinship and fostering recruitment processes.
• Supervise a team of Advanced Practitioners, Supervising Social Workers and Support Workers.
• Conduct performance management, formal supervision and regular appraisals.
• Identify skills gaps and arrange appropriate training.
• Chair meetings, conferences and multi‑disciplinary reviews to address individual child needs.
• Maintain a hybrid working pattern with a minimum of three on‑site days per week.

Required profile

• Qualified social worker registered with Social Work England and completed ASYE.
• Minimum two years’ experience as a Fostering Support Manager or Advanced Practitioner.
• Demonstrated experience working with children, families, fostering and kinship care.
• Strong knowledge of social work intervention methods, child protection, look‑after children services and relevant legislation.

Required skills

• Social work qualification and registration.
• Experience of managing performance and delivering professional supervision.
• Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team and coordinate reviews.
