Technical Director – Environmental Consultancy

About the role

The consultancy is seeking an experienced Technical Director to lead its ecology team, drive technical excellence and support regional operations across the UK. This senior position will shape strategy, mentor staff and ensure high‑quality delivery for a diverse portfolio of development, infrastructure, energy and conservation projects.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for the ecology department, aligning regional goals with national business objectives.
• Manage and develop ecological teams through mentoring, recruitment, performance reviews and professional development planning.
• Oversee financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting and resource planning to meet commercial targets.
• Lead project resourcing, attend planning meetings and deliver regular performance updates.
• Act as senior technical lead on complex, high‑value ecological projects, supporting Project Managers and Directors.
• Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest technical standards.
• Conduct portfolio reviews, identify improvement opportunities and coordinate regional strategy.
• Maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor and key point of contact.
• Represent the business at industry events, conferences and stakeholder meetings.

Required profile

• Proven experience in ecological and environmental consultancy at a senior level.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong commercial acumen with experience managing budgets and forecasts.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Passion for delivering sustainable, biodiversity‑focused solutions.
