Technical Manager

About the role

A leading UK metal manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Technical Manager to lead its engineering and technical function. The role involves overseeing process control, tooling, manufacturing engineering and new product introduction across a precision casting operation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the multidisciplinary technical engineering team.
• Provide technical leadership across tooling, wax, shell, foundry and finishing operations.
• Drive continuous improvement to reduce scrap, improve yield and increase Right‑First‑Time performance.
• Manage New Product Introduction (NPI) from tooling design through production approval.
• Oversee tooling design, procurement, modification and implementation.
• Lead Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations and resolve technical issues.
• Analyse production performance data and identify process optimisation opportunities.
• Ensure products meet customer drawings, specifications and technical requirements.
• Collaborate with Operations, Quality, Commercial and Production teams to deliver technical solutions.
• Support investigation of non‑conforming products and implement corrective actions.
• Develop technical standards, process documentation and manufacturing controls.
• Coach, mentor and develop technical and production personnel.

Required profile

• Experience in manufacturing environments where metallurgy, materials engineering, casting, forging, machining or heat treatment are critical.
• Background as a Technical Manager, Metallurgical Engineer, Foundry Engineer or Manufacturing Engineer.
• Proven ability to lead technical teams and act as senior technical authority.

What we offer

• Salary up to £50,000 per year plus benefits.
