Technical Officer – Commercial

About the role

East Herts Council is seeking a Technical Officer to join its Commercial team in Hertford. The role involves proactive interventions, handling complaints and enquiries, and supporting a range of public health services across commercial premises.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out food safety and health‑and‑safety inspections in commercial premises.
• Investigate infectious disease incidents, including outbreaks and food sampling.
• Prepare enforcement and prosecution reports.
• Respond to enquiries and registrations for the beauty sector.
• Collaborate with the wider environmental health team to protect public health.

Required profile

• Relevant qualification to undertake food safety controls as defined by the FSA Food Law Code of Practice.
• Experience in environmental health and enforcement action.
• Confidence in dealing with the public and strong report‑writing ability.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a car for work duties.
