Technical Support Officer – Engineering

About the role

We are seeking a Technical Support Officer to join a Further Education College in Greater Manchester. In this role you will work closely with lecturers and students, setting up and maintaining engineering workshops and ensuring practical sessions run safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain the engineering workshop and associated equipment.
• Support practical sessions, demonstrating the safe use of tools and machinery.
• Assist staff and students with technical problems and project set‑ups.
• Uphold high standards of health and safety across all practical areas.
• Monitor and manage inventory of equipment, tools and materials.

Required profile

• Relevant technical qualification in engineering or a related discipline.
• Hands‑on experience working in an engineering workshop environment.
• Strong understanding of health and safety procedures.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks effectively.
• Previous experience in an educational or training setting is desirable.
• DBS check will be required.
