Technical Writer – Service Documentation

About the role

Acorn by Synergie is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to join the Service Engineering team of a global manufacturing and engineering company in Portsmouth. You will be responsible for creating and maintaining clear, user‑focused service documentation for field engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, write and maintain technical service documentation such as service manuals, maintenance procedures, installation guides and troubleshooting guides.
• Structure and format content using a Component Content Management System (CCMS) and approved authoring tools.
• Publish approved documentation to document management systems, service platforms and internal repositories.
• Ensure all documentation complies with ISO, cGMP, GDP, EHS, design control, product release, quality and regulatory requirements.
• Standardise documentation to improve consistency, usability and content reuse for global Field Service Engineers.
• Identify documentation gaps, inconsistencies and technical risks, escalating issues as needed.
• Support documentation migration projects and manage reviews, approvals, version control and traceability throughout the documentation lifecycle.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, service, quality and regulatory teams.

Required profile

• Degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, Technical Communication, Language Processing, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum two years’ experience in technical writing, technical authoring, engineering documentation or regulated documentation.
• Proven experience producing service manuals, work instructions, maintenance procedures, installation guides or similar technical publications.
• Knowledge of ISO, cGMP, GDP and related regulatory standards.

What we offer

• Salary £30,000‑£35,000 per annum
• Monday‑Friday, 39‑hour week
• Temporary / contingency contract
• 34 days’ holiday after 12 weeks, including bank holidays
