Telecommunications Network Engineer

About the role

First Orion UK Limited is looking for a Telecommunications Network Engineer to join its UK team. You will work on implementing, monitoring, and maintaining the infrastructure that powers First Orion’s anti‑scam call solutions, reporting to the Associate Director of Application Support.

Key responsibilities

• Test, deploy, troubleshoot, and maintain REST API and SIP telecommunication solutions.
• Assist in performance tuning and ensure high availability of network infrastructure.
• Develop test‑automation frameworks in collaboration with the engineering team.
• Track, analyse, and resolve recurring issues through pattern identification.
• Support and validate deployments, upgrades, and routine maintenance activities.
• Participate in a Tier 3 on‑call rotation and provide after‑hours support aligned with US Central Time.
• Identify and implement continuous‑improvement opportunities for monitoring and support processes.

Required profile

• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to troubleshoot complex network issues.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to validating work products.
• Experience working in high‑stress, multi‑tasking environments.

Required skills

• REST API, SIP, IP routing, firewall and network monitoring.
• Basic AWS knowledge (ECS, CloudWatch, S3, network routing).
• Network protocol analysis tools such as Wireshark, Opnet or Gigamon.
• Linux server troubleshooting using TCPDUMP, CURL and related tools.
• Shell scripting (CSH, KSH, BASH) and data‑driven scripting (awk, sed).
• Experience with test‑automation framework development.

What we offer

• Competitive salary range of £28,200‑£52,800 per year, dependent on experience.
