Telecoms Engineer – 6 Month Contract in Exeter

About the role

We are seeking a Telecoms Engineer for a six‑month contract based onsite in Exeter. You will be responsible for maintaining and upgrading analogue telephony infrastructure across multiple operational sites while supporting the transition to modern VoIP solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Fault‑find and repair analogue telephony systems at various sites.
• Diagnose issues with PSTN/PSDN lines and assist migration away from legacy services.
• Configure, troubleshoot and replace Cisco switches.
• Perform structured cabling work (Cat5/6), patching and cabinet tidying.
• Audit telecoms infrastructure, document findings and update asset records.
• Liaise with site managers to plan outages and minimise operational disruption.
• Collaborate with internal IT/OT teams to ensure network resilience.
• Support SIP migration projects and work with VoIP gateways.

Required profile

• Proven experience with analogue telephony systems and PSTN/PSDN environments.
• Hands‑on knowledge of Cisco switching hardware.
• Familiarity with structured cabling standards (Cat5/6) and cabinet management.
• Experience supporting SIP migration or VoIP gateway deployments.
• Ability to work closely with site managers and cross‑functional IT teams.
