Temp Assistant Accountant

About the role

We are supporting a growing SME in Leeds as a Temporary Assistant Accountant. The role works closely with the Head of Finance to ensure the finance function runs smoothly, handling core transactional duties and contributing to process improvements. Ideal for a proactive, detail‑oriented individual who thrives in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Complete monthly bank reconciliations for multiple accounts and support other month‑end reconciliations.
• Manage aged debtors and credit control, chasing overdue payments and maximising cash collection.
• Manage aged creditors, reconcile supplier statements and keep the purchase ledger up to date.
• Process sales invoices for all customers.
• Process purchase invoices and expenses, ensuring authorisation and correct coding.
• Oversee company card expenses, ensuring they are authorised, coded and within policy.
• Perform balance‑sheet reconciliations across multiple accounts and resolve reconciling items.
• Set up and authorise payments through banks, ensuring timely execution.
• Provide day‑to‑day finance query support and escalate where necessary.
• Input transactional data and liaise with departments to keep financial records accurate.
• Assist with month‑end processes and resolve reconciliation queries.
• Handle general ad‑hoc finance queries.

Required profile

• Strong IT proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Office 365.
• Experience in credit control, managing aged debt and processing payments via online banking platforms.
• Self‑starter with a can‑do attitude, eager to suggest improvements.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑changing environment.
• Positive attitude and realistic expectations.
