Temporary Accommodation Assistant

About the role

The Temporary Accommodation Assistant supports the Housing Directorate by managing the allocation and booking of temporary accommodation across the county. Working closely with the Temporary Accommodation Officer, you will ensure that service users receive appropriate housing while handling related administrative duties, including Housing Benefit claims.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate the allocation of temporary accommodation to service users in partnership with the Temporary Accommodation Officer.
• Ensure all applicants complete a Housing Benefits application before moving into temporary accommodation, handling emergencies as required.
• Notify Housing Benefits of any moves and maintain accurate records of all placements.
• Monitor regular use of allocated accommodation and conduct inspections to verify standards.
• Liaise with housing providers to confirm availability and suitability of properties.
• Provide guidance and support to service users regarding their housing options and address enquiries or complaints promptly.
• Collaborate with internal teams to deliver seamless service and report on usage and effectiveness of temporary accommodation.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, council policies, and procedural guidelines.

• Compassionate and organised individual with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with service users, providers, and internal teams.
• Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate records.
• Understanding of housing benefit processes and relevant legislation is advantageous.
