Temporary Finance Assistant – Public Sector (6-8 weeks)

About the role

We are seeking a temporary Finance Assistant to join a well‑established public sector organisation in Portsmouth for a 6‑8 week assignment. You will support the finance team in day‑to‑day operations, ensuring accurate and efficient processing of transactions.

Key responsibilities

• Perform bank reconciliations and process invoices.
• Assist with supplier payments, petty cash handling and maintain financial records using QuickBooks and NHS systems.
• Enter and reconcile data for pension administration.
• Respond to finance‑related queries from staff and external bodies.
• Support month‑end procedures and contribute to financial reporting while adhering to data governance standards.

Required profile

• Experience supporting financial operations in a healthcare or public sector environment, preferably with NHS or similar systems.
• Highly organised, detail‑oriented and able to handle confidential information.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
• Adaptable and willing to take responsibility for individual tasks.
