Test Repair Technician

About the role

The Test Repair Technician is responsible for testing all manufactured items, including bought‑in and newly assembled units, and performing occasional rework or modifications. Working in an ISO‑9001 and ISO‑14001 compliant environment, the role ensures product quality, safety, and on‑time delivery while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct functional and safety testing on electrical assemblies and systems, both high‑ and low‑voltage.
• Perform occasional rework, modification, or repair of units to meet specifications.
• Attend daily Tier 1 meetings to align with on‑time delivery expectations.
• Liaise with engineering to report issues, provide feedback, and update drawings or schematics.
• Collaborate with production supervisors on waste‑reduction, ELSS, and Lean projects.
• Create and maintain work instructions, process aids, and train team members.
• Deliver on KPIs while upholding health, safety, and zero‑incident culture.
• Communicate constraints promptly to avoid production delays.
• Assist in manufacturing tasks when required to support smooth department operations.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of experience in domestic, commercial, or industrial electrical installation, testing, or control‑panel wiring.
• Relevant qualification such as BTEC, NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent in Electrical or Test Engineering.
• Knowledge of BS 7671 wiring regulations is preferred but not essential.
• Understanding of safe electrical working practices and ISO‑compliant environments.

Required skills

• Electrical safety testing, flash testing, and earth continuity testing.
• Fault‑finding of electrical and electronic systems to component level.
• Soldering (conventional and surface‑mount) and general assembly techniques.
• Proficient use of hand tools and power tools.
• Reading and interpreting technical drawings and wiring schematics.
• Operation of standard electrical test equipment.
• Knowledge of safe electrical working practices and BS 7671 regulations.
