Tooling Design Engineer

About the role

The Operations Engineering team is seeking a Tooling Design Engineer to support the full product lifecycle, from prototype design to production build and end‑of‑life support. You will work on industrial tools, jigs, fixtures and machine attachments, ensuring they meet performance, cost and legislative requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop tooling, fixtures and composite lay‑up solutions using CAD tools.
• Create technical requirement specifications, detailed process instructions and manufacturing BOMs/routings.
• Participate in Level 1 & 2 MDWT meetings and support capital plan technical requirements.
• Collaborate with Industrial Engineering, Production Engineering and other functions to drive right‑first‑time quality.
• Support full‑rate production of products aligned with the Ampthill business requirements.

Required profile

• Background in tooling design within a manufacturing environment.
• Broad knowledge of CNC machining, composites, fabrication and related manufacturing processes.
• Experience creating technical specifications and manufacturing documentation.

What we offer

• 6‑month contract (inside IR35) with a 4‑day work week (Monday‑Thursday).
• 37.5 hours per week onsite at Ampthill, Bedfordshire.
