Toolmaker & Die Maintenance Technician

About the role

MTrec Recruitment is seeking a Toolmaker / Die Maintenance Technician for a prestigious blue‑chip manufacturing client in Newton Aycliffe. The role offers an immediate start and the chance to develop expertise in press tooling, welding and preventative maintenance within a leading industrial environment.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair in‑press tooling breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
• Perform planned preventative maintenance on dies and tooling to maximise equipment reliability.
• Identify and resolve quality issues promptly, reducing waste and maintaining product standards.
• Carry out TIG, MIG and ARC welding activities as required.
• Undertake bench fitting, repair and assembly work supporting tooling maintenance.
• Maintain accurate daily maintenance records and adhere to SOPs.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis of tooling and production issues and contribute to continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Support tooling commissioning, die modifications and engineering change activities.

Required profile

• Relevant apprenticeship in Die Maintenance or Toolmaking.
• ONC, BTEC or NVQ Level 3 in Maintenance or an Engineering discipline.
• Experience in preventative die/tool maintenance.
• Familiarity with presses, machining and welding processes.
• Understanding of Lean practices.
