Traffic Management Operative

About the role

As a Traffic Management Operative you will oversee traffic control schemes across a variety of construction projects, ensuring smooth operations while maintaining high health and safety standards. The role requires flexibility to work days, nights and occasional weekends.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and supervise traffic management methods such as priority signs, stop/go boards, portable signals, convoy procedures, road and lane closures, and diversions.
• Carry out risk assessments, method statements and ensure compliance with safe working practices and legislation (Red Book, Chapter 8, ARTSM).
• Perform daily vehicle checks, maintain vehicle cleanliness and safety, and promote a positive company image on site.
• Assist the public by directing them safely through site areas and identify when management intervention is required.
• Regularly inspect sites for compliance, report unsafe conditions and rectify them when competent.

Required profile

• Minimum Lantra 12d accreditation (TTMBC, 12d M1‑M2) – higher grades advantageous.
• Full, valid UK driving licence.
• Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings related to traffic works.
• Mechanical aptitude for traffic‑light equipment.
• Understanding of Chapter 8 and the Safety at Street Works and Road Works (Red Book) guidelines.
