Trainee Archaeologist – Fixed‑Term (6 months) – Milton Keynes

About the role
Assist in the successful and safe conduct of fieldwork projects, including archaeological surveys, surface collection programmes, evaluations and excavations, following Cotswold Archaeology procedures and recognised industry standards.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in the planning and execution of fieldwork projects across various archaeological periods.
- Compile archaeological site records using pro‑forma recording sheets and registers.
- Process artefact and environmental samples as required.
- Carry out manual excavation of features with a range of hand tools.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to post‑excavation reporting.
Required profile
- Broad knowledge of archaeological periods, monuments and practice gained from a degree‑level qualification or equivalent experience.
- Physical ability to perform demanding outdoor work in diverse weather conditions.
- Willingness to undertake away work and stay in provided accommodation.
- Enthusiasm to learn all aspects of professional archaeological practice and develop new skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

What we offer
- Starting salary of £27,278 per annum (above CIfA minimum).
- 30 days annual leave (including statutory holidays), prorated for contract length.
