Trainee Archaeologist – Fixed‑Term (6 months) – £27,278

About the role

Join Cotswold Archaeology’s award‑winning trainee programme as a Trainee Archaeologist in Needham Market. You will work on a variety of fieldwork projects, gaining hands‑on experience in excavation, recording and sample processing.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the safe conduct of fieldwork projects, including surveys, evaluations and excavations.
• Compile archaeological site records using pro‑formae and registers.
• Process artefact and environmental samples as required.
• Carry out manual excavation of features with hand tools.
• Develop knowledge of archaeological periods and practice through a trainee log.

Required profile

• Broad knowledge of archaeological periods, monuments and practice gained from a degree‑level or equivalent qualification.
• Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varied weather conditions.
• Willingness to undertake away work and travel to project sites.
• Good attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
• Full manual driving licence is desirable.
