Trainee Gas Engineer – Entry Level

About the role

Join SGN as a Trainee Gas Engineer and help keep millions of homes safe and warm. This entry‑level position provides full training, equipment and on‑the‑job support to develop the skills needed for gas network maintenance and installation.

Key responsibilities

• Assist senior engineers on site with gas service and mains repair activities.
• Excavate, dig and lay gas pipes on public and private highways.
• Repair and replace gas mains and services in a variety of outdoor environments.
• Maintain SGN vans and tools before and after each job to ensure safety and efficiency.
• Participate in standby and overtime shifts as required to support 24/7 gas supply.

Required skills

• Basic understanding of excavation and digging techniques.
• Ability to handle and install gas pipework safely.
• Familiarity with using hand and power tools for gas mains work.
• Knowledge of health and safety procedures for working on highways.
