Trainee Toolsetter

About the role

This permanent trainee position offers a hands‑on introduction to tool‑setting for CNC milling machines within a busy engineering workshop. You will receive on‑the‑job training and mentorship from experienced staff to develop practical machining skills.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret tooling setting sheets and job instructions.
• Assist with setting milling cutters, drills and other tooling into holders (training provided).
• Deliver and collect tools to and from machines, supporting tool breakdown after jobs.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe tool‑setting area.
• Help maintain tool holders, vices and other workshop equipment.
• Support tooling stock control and assist with ordering consumables.
• Prioritise tasks to meet production deadlines.

Required profile

• Genuine interest in engineering, machining or hands‑on workshop work.
• Any workshop or assembly experience is helpful but not essential.
• Good attention to detail and reliable time‑keeping.
• Willingness to learn, follow processes and work methodically.
• Excellent team communication skills.
• GCSE English & Maths (grades A‑C) or equivalent, or working towards them.
