Transport Manager

About the role

Our client, a rapidly growing FMCG distribution business based in Wembley, is seeking a Transport Manager to lead a multi‑drop fleet operation across London and Manchester. Reporting directly to the Head of Operations, you will own day‑to‑day management of a 16‑vehicle fleet while supporting planned expansion and larger vehicles.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all transport operations to ensure high service levels and regulatory compliance.
• Lead, motivate and develop driver teams across multiple locations.
• Drive route optimisation initiatives using existing planning software and identify improvement opportunities.
• Oversee fleet maintenance, servicing schedules, inspections and vehicle availability.
• Ensure compliance with Operator Licence requirements and transport legislation.
• Monitor and report on KPIs such as cost, utilisation, on‑time delivery and driver performance.
• Handle transport‑related incidents, escalations and operational challenges.
• Develop and implement a structured driver training and onboarding programme.
• Reduce driver turnover through engagement, coaching and performance management.
• Support future fleet growth and operational scalability.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a Transport Manager role.
• A valid Transport Manager CPC qualification (or ready to be named on an Operator Licence).
• Experience managing a multi‑drop distribution operation.
• Strong knowledge of fleet management, vehicle compliance and transport legislation.
• Proven ability to lead and develop driver teams.
• Proactive, hands‑on management style with a continuous‑improvement mindset.
• Excellent organisational and problem‑solving abilities.
