Transport Manager

About the role

The Transport Manager will be responsible for the safe, efficient and compliant operation of the company’s fleet. Working a 10‑hour day shift, Monday to Friday, you will ensure that all vehicles meet industry standards and haulage regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the vehicle planner, documentation and arrange preventative maintenance with workshops.
• Enforce the company’s VOR policy and manage preventative maintenance processes.
• Monitor driver defect reports, tachograph data and mileage, addressing infringements and providing training.
• Produce weekly WTD reports and present fleet statistics to senior management.
• Communicate updates on training, qualifications and legal requirements to the driver population.
• Track vehicle defects, resolve daily handovers and ensure fleet availability.
• Escalate health & safety or road traffic accident issues to the General Manager.
• Engage with national/EU suppliers to achieve long‑term cost reductions.
• Recruit, onboard and retain qualified PAYE drivers, handling accident investigations and insurance liaison.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a transport department working with HGVs.
• Ability to work collaboratively with two other Transport Managers.
• Holder of a valid UK driving licence for cars and light commercial vehicles; CPC certification preferred or in progress.

Required skills

• Knowledge of haulage regulations, VOR policy and tachograph compliance.
• Experience with fleet maintenance planning and defect tracking.
• Strong analytical skills for reporting and data review.
• Effective communication with drivers and external suppliers.
