Transport Manager

About the role

Our client, a rapidly growing FMCG distribution business based in Wembley, is seeking a Transport Manager to lead a multi‑drop fleet operation across London and Manchester. You will oversee transport operations, fleet compliance, route optimisation and driver development while supporting fleet growth.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day transport operations for a fleet of 16 vehicles, ensuring high service levels and compliance with Operator Licence requirements.
• Lead, motivate and develop driver teams across multiple locations, reducing turnover through coaching and performance management.
• Drive route optimisation initiatives using existing planning software and identify further improvement opportunities.
• Oversee fleet maintenance, servicing schedules, inspections and vehicle availability.
• Monitor and report transport KPIs such as cost, utilisation, on‑time delivery and driver performance.
• Handle transport‑related incidents, escalations and operational challenges.
• Develop and implement a structured driver training and onboarding programme.
• Support future fleet expansion and operational scalability.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Transport Manager in a multi‑drop distribution environment.
• Valid Transport Manager CPC qualification (or ready to be named on an Operator Licence).
• Strong knowledge of fleet management, vehicle compliance and transport legislation.
• Advanced Excel skills for KPI analysis and reporting.
• Proven ability to lead and develop driver teams with a hands‑on, continuous‑improvement mindset.
