Transport Manager – Luton Depot

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Transport Manager to lead the transport operation at our busy Luton depot. The role works an early shift starting at 5:00 am, Monday to Friday, and involves taking ownership of daily transport activity, driver management, fleet compliance and service performance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the depot transport team and ensure full operator compliance.
• Manage drivers, daily transport activity and resource planning to meet delivery requirements.
• Monitor vehicle roadworthiness, driver walk‑round checks, defects and PMI schedules.
• Control drivers’ hours, tachograph downloads and infringement reports in line with regulations.
• Maintain the transport management system, run sheets, usage reports and weekly overview reporting.
• Brief and debrief crews, manage service failures and communicate performance updates.
• Recruit, train, coach and develop transport staff, including performance and disciplinary actions.
• Coordinate vehicle maintenance, accident/incident reporting, PDA management and depot costs.

Required profile

• Hands‑on transport professional with strong leadership capability.
• Proven experience managing depot‑based transport or logistics operations.
• Transport Manager CPC qualification is essential.
• In‑depth knowledge of driver hours, tachograph rules, vehicle compliance, PMI schedules and health & safety.
• Ability to analyse trends, identify improvements and maintain high standards of safety and cost control.
