Transport Operations Manager – Lead High‑Volume Logistics

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Transport Operations Manager to own daily transport activity in a fast‑paced, high‑volume logistics environment. You will ensure efficient planning, compliance, and exceptional service delivery while leading operational teams and driving continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day transport operations across multiple routes and customers.
• Ensure collections and deliveries meet SLA timelines.
• Lead, manage and develop transport planners, supervisors and drivers.
• Optimise vehicle utilisation, route planning and overall efficiency.
• Maintain full compliance with UK transport regulations, driver hours and tachograph rules.
• Uphold high health & safety standards across all transport activities.
• Monitor fleet performance, maintenance schedules and operational costs.
• Act as primary operational contact for major customers and resolve service issues.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to boost efficiency and reduce costs.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Transport Manager or Operations Manager in logistics or haulage.
• Strong understanding of UK transport compliance and regulations.
• Experience in time‑critical, multi‑drop or JIT transport environments.
• Confident leader with strong people‑management abilities.
• Excellent organisational and problem‑solving skills.
• Commercially aware with a focus on efficiency and service delivery.
• Willingness to hold a CPC qualification if not already possessed.
• Experience using Transport Management Systems (TMS).
