Transport Planner

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Transport Planner to join our logistics team in Middlesbrough. You will be responsible for coordinating truck and driver schedules, minimising empty return journeys and supporting the overall efficiency of our transport operations.

Key responsibilities

• Schedule trucks and drivers to meet the needs of all operating departments.
• Proactively identify back‑loads to reduce empty return trips.
• Develop operational improvements focused on cost reduction and customer satisfaction.
• Maintain strong relationships with suppliers, internal customers and department managers.
• Ensure accurate pricing by understanding operating costs.
• Monitor compliance with company CPC terms and LV HSSQE procedures.
• Manage subcontractor usage, ensuring only LV‑approved suppliers are engaged.
• Oversee safe load distribution and adherence to transport budgets.

Required profile

• Positive, enthusiastic and able to thrive in a busy team environment.
• Experience managing company‑owned equipment and subcontractor/owner‑driver fleets.
• Familiarity with all truck and trailer types.
• Strong organisational and planning abilities, capable of working under pressure.
• Excellent customer service, communication and negotiation skills.
• Flexibility to cover holiday and sickness absences.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications – Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
• Ability to use internal transport management systems.
