Transport Planner – Route Planning & Operations

About the role

We are seeking a Transport Planner to lead our transport team, ensuring safe, efficient and on‑time deliveries. You will act as the central link between drivers, operational teams and customers, creating optimal route plans and managing resources across our Northampton hub.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate drivers, vehicles and routes to deliver cost‑effective service.
• Manage driver availability, workloads and agency support while complying with Driver Hours and Working Time Directive regulations.
• Monitor transport performance, analysing route efficiency, productivity and key operational KPIs.
• Build strong relationships with customers, drivers and operational teams to ensure clear communication and proactive issue resolution.
• Identify and implement improvements to enhance planning efficiency, reduce costs and support continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Previous experience in transport, logistics or planning environments.
• Good understanding of Driver Hours and Working Time Directive regulations.
• Strong organisational and time‑management abilities.
• Ability to analyse data and produce meaningful reports.

Required skills

• Transport Management Systems such as Paragon, Tachomaster, Microlise, GTS or ESP Advanced.
• Microsoft Office – Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
