Underwriter – Marine Professional Indemnity

About the role

Pen, an innovative MGA backed by Gallagher, is seeking an Underwriter (or Senior Underwriter) to join its Marine Professional Indemnity team in London. You will work alongside experienced underwriters to evaluate, price, and manage complex marine PI risks, contributing to the growth and profitability of the portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, price and underwrite Marine Professional Indemnity risks in line with company guidelines and market conditions.
• Analyse technical documentation, loss histories, surveys and financial data to support underwriting decisions.
• Structure policy terms, conditions and endorsements tailored to client needs and risk appetite.
• Maintain underwriting discipline, ensuring compliance with internal controls, regulatory standards and delegated authority limits.
• Manage a renewable book of business, monitoring profitability and aligning with strategic objectives.
• Track performance metrics, identify loss trends and propose corrective actions.
• Contribute to underwriting strategy, pricing models and product enhancements.
• Build and sustain relationships with brokers, clients, capacity providers and industry partners.

Required profile

• Deep knowledge of the marine professional indemnity sector.
• Strong analytical judgement and ability to interpret complex risk data.
• Proven experience in underwriting, pricing and portfolio management.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills with brokers and clients.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a fast‑paced, results‑driven team.
